Posted in Announcements, My Chronicles, Techie Stuff, wordpress on August 12, 2007 by hkarthi

RoadMap:

This is my road map in getting my site back and operational. Not only that I have decided to do it in a proper and correct manner, meaning no short-cuts and compromises which has resulted in the problem I am facing right now. I have been postponing things for a long time. Not anymore!

Target for 12/13-08-2007 – 15-08-2007:

  • Take backup of my website and make sure all the data is available with me to proceed with.
  • Install WordPress locally and make sure that all the changes that I want to make is made to work locally and debug them in case of any errors.
  • Create new content and post it them and verify their post status and outlook of the website locally.
  • Include content such as audio, video and other cool links.
  • Check validity for W3C.

Target for 15/16-08-2007 – 19-08-2007:

  • Upload the contents on to the website.
  • Test all the links and check post status.
  • Check comment section.
  • Check and confirm new content available.
  • Start working on a simpler version of the website for faster loading with lesser graphics.
  • Officially re-launch website on 19th.

Well I am hoping for some good days ahead and hoping to complete the tasks at hand in time. Anyone who is an expert on WordPress/web publishing do let drop me an email and I will contact you if I need any help. Ofcourse, I will be mentioning all those helped me in the venture. I am also planning to launch podcast (long term project) and hoping to find some voluntary and interested members for that.

Thats all for now. I will update on the maintenance and other issues!

Testing with Windows Live Writer

Posted in Techie Stuff on February 22, 2007 by hkarthi

This is the new Windows Live Writer, a response to Google’s Writely (currently known as Google Documents), from Microsoft Windows. The product is still a beta version and you can find the link to the homepage here and to download this click here.

The interface for Windows Live Writer looks good. It resembles MS Word application. Here is a screenshot of the application. As you can see, it has big editor space (which I like). It has various options such Publish, Save Draft on the top and other miscellaneous options on the right. You can insert image, link, tags, and even maps. I believe that Windows Live Writer will give Google Documents a good run for the money, if they make it really good. Apart from what they have done, they should include RSS feed, ability to invite people to review the document and add them as editors to a particular document, ability to add Tables in this document.

A couple of advantages that Live Writer has are:

  • People are more familiar with MS Word, and hence can relate to this more quickly and use it more effectively
  • You can not only use this software to blog in Windows Live but also in any blogsphere
  • You also have a plugin for installing it in Firefox and using it to blog a whole page or a particular snippet
  • It has a similar plugin for IE
  • It has also introduced the concept of plugins similar to Firefox (Flickr, Event Plugin and so on)
  • It’s free

The competition from Google has started to produce some results from Microsoft. It has realized that people are not complacent any more with the usual run-of-mill products from MS. It has to be creative if it plans on mainting its position as number one. However Microsoft has still has to improve a lot, but we can be gurannteed that in the future that we can expect some good products from MS as well.

Google Tabs is here !

Posted in Google Inc, Techie Stuff on September 23, 2006 by hkarthi

Ever since Google launched AJAX homepage, the widgets or add-ons that were available to the user has grown tremendoursly. These add-ons are written in AJAX, which means that you can drag and place them wherever you like to. They were simple but effective. You can get the latest news from sites such as Digg.com, Endgadet, BBC World News and so on.

Even my homepage which was empty before is now overflowing with add-ons. Whenever I looked at my homepage I always wished there was some way to keep these add-ons and also keep it simple the way it used to be. Now Google has answered those questions with Google Tabs!…

Google Tabs, which was first available for IE, is now available for Firefox too! I have posted some screenshots for your view. They are AWESOME!.. THANKS GOOGLE .. for making my surfing easier !
