Getting Clobbered for the Wrong Reason!
Have ever found yourself in a position where you were getting clobbered, well not physically but verbally for no fault of your own? Hmmm seems to me that I have been put in such a position now!
It is time, I think, that I should come clean with regards to a post that I posted a couple of months back. It has been one of the top posts in my blog for sometime because of its “controversial” nature. This post was about an email that I received at work. It was one of those “I hate Chennai/Bangalore” kind of one. I usually never give much credence to such emails and delete them if I find them boring. This email was sent by a Bangalore IT guy who was probably based in Chennai. It seems that he doest not known Tamil (the native language of TamilNadu – *sarcasam* what a shocker!) and faced many hardships. If you actually read his email and his “opinions” about Chennai it would be laughable at best. This email was apparently sent to another IT guy who is from Chennai. He then started a chain mail and everyone started forwarding to others with their own comments in the end. However, it did pass through another IT guy from Bangalore. He/She is based in Bangalore.
The long list of comments, or as I call them cribbing, was suitably replied by the IT Bangalore guy, in a manner that made me feel so proud to be a Chennaite. I know it sounds childish!… but hey this is my town “ithu enga area!”… so couldn’t control myself to publish this comedy chain mail in my blog. Before posting, I also made it clear to the readers (or so I thought), that this email was not written by me nor do I hate Chennai!!!
After a while, I started receiving comments where the readers thought that I was the one who wrote the email. Probably its my mistake, should have just given them some points of the chain mail and point out that Chennai is a good place to live in and even raise family! However, the readers started pointing out that I am too good to stay in Chennai and someone even suggested that I should just “leave Chennai”.
In the beginning, all I could do was just laugh at those comments. But then I later realized that maybe the readers are not getting the point and was getting clobbered (verbally) for that post. It was funny though, I mean I love Chennai. But I am not saying it is perfect. No city is perfect. But that doesn’t mean that it is not a great city. If that wasn’t the case, why are so many IT companies and IT professionals are looking towards Chennai as a viable option to open offices, start their families and look to settle down?
I guess the point I am trying to convey here is, when you read the post, please make sure that what was the writer’s intention. If you do not understand the post, point that to him politely by either writing him/her an email privately or post it as a comment. That would help the writer to also understand what mistake he/she is doing and would rectify it the next time. I have not altered the Chennai post for which I got clobbered. The reason is just to see if anyone out there really understands what I have written and if not, then what kind of mistake am I doing.
However, this whole issue has given me a different opinion about how to write. I know I am not great with writing skills, I would consider myself decent. I am trying to improve and the only way I am going to do that is receive some credible and constructive criticisms, through which I can improve myself.
Readers, you are all welcome to view my blog. I also do not delete any comment from any reader and if I they are spam, then it gets deleted automatically. The responsibility for maintaining a good blog does not only lie with the writer of that blog but also with that of the reader. If you plan to leave a comment, please read through carefully and comment constructively through which the writer could improve.
